Hello,

My name is Kellia Ramares and I am a 55 year-old freelance journalist in
Oakland, CA. I see the gift economy as the way to create a just, peaceful
and prosperous world for all on a planet that is well taken care of because
the financial incentive to degrade the environment, e.g. BP's shortcuts in
the Gulf to save money, will have been removed.

I have recently started a project called "The End of Money", which is
designed to get people around the world to ask the question "why must we pay
to live on the planet we're born on?" I have a project page on
Kickstarter.com (URL in my sig below) to raise money for a book and
documentary on the subject. That is not as odd as it first appears because
the world as it exists NOW demands money for projects like these.

There is an introductory video on the page, which I invite all of you to
view and distribute freely. It tells you more about why I think we need to
go in this direction, although I talk in terms of abolishing money rather
than gift economy. There is also an essay on the page which gives more
information and further explains why I am asking for money to end money and
what the money will be used for. The fundraiser is an all or nothing
proposition. So if you like the video and are willing to send it on, I'll
hope you will make a donation as well.

I also have a website (URL below) that is free to read, download from, and
discuss things on.

Calls for monetary reform seem to fall into two camps: The first seeks to
reform but not abolish the concept of money and monetary systems through
such things as local currencies and, in the US, state banks and abolishing
the Fed. These are good transition steps toward what I think the second camp
advocates -- the gift economy. I'm in that second camp. I wish most strongly
for people to examine the values that undergird the money economy
(capitalistic and socialistic), which is why I am asking "Why must we pay to
live on the planet we're born on?" I think that is the question from which
everything else proceeds.

If you are are Facebook, I invite you to "like" my page The End Of Money.
(Yes, I have heard of, but not yet read, the Thomas Greco book, my full
working is The End Of Money: A Critique of Paying, Owing and Working "for a
living."

I know of various experiments with free stores, but I am most interested in
hearing about how you get people to discuss the value systems behind the
practical economics.

Thanks,

Kellia
